Tips To Protect Your Feet When You Have Diabetes

  • Check your feet daily for any blisters or infections. They can occur between your toes, and you may not feel them until they become irritated or infected.
  • Wash with warm, not hot, water. Avoid soaking them for too long as waterlogged soars have a hard time healing.
  • Invest in proper fitting shoes. If your shoe is too tight or rubbing, it can cause the skin to irritate and turn into blisters and sores.
  • Inform your podiatrist about any changes in any sensation in your feet or toes. Whether it's a pain, tingling, or numbness, inform your doctor before any permanent damage happens to your feet.
  • Always ensure you are wearing shoes or slippers. Going barefoot is not beneficial.
  • Be in control of your blood sugar.
